West Chester hires Assistant Fire Chief

Stephen Oughterson was appointed to Assistant Fire Chief of Operations on February 28 by the West Chester Board of Trustees.

Assistant-Chief-Ougtherson-3_webMr. Oughterson joins the West Chester Fire Department from the City of Lebanon Fire Department where he served as a captain. He began his career in 1995 with the Loveland Symmes Fire Department where he rose to the rank of lieutenant.

As Assistant Fire Chief, Mr. Oughterson will work under the direction of Fire Chief Rick Prinz overseeing Fire Operations, Hazardous Materials, Specialized Technical Rescue Forces, and Loss Prevention and Operations Bureaus of the department. Assistant Fire Chief of Administration is Dave Pickering.

“Based on his education, training, experience and background, I have no doubt that Assistant Chief Oughterson will be a great fit for this department and this community,” said Chief Prinz.

Mr. Oughterson holds a Bachelor of Science in Fire and Safety Engineering Technology from the University of Cincinnati and is a graduate of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program. He is also a lead instructor for the International Society of Fire Service Instructors where he provides quality training and education to firefighters across the nation.

Mr. Oughterson will begin work in West Chester on March 13. He fills a vacancy left by the appointment of current Chief Prinz in December 2015.
