Keehner Park improvements planned
Updates to Keehner Park restrooms and the amphitheatre are slated to begin this spring.
The West Chester Board of Trustees Tuesday approved the renovations.
Restroom facilities on the west side of the park, near the amphitheatre, will undergo renovations beginning immediately. The project, awarded to Viox Services, Inc., is budgeted to cost no more than $37,900.
“This pair of restrooms are original to the park and were put in about 20 years ago with the construction of the amphitheatre,” Community Services Director Tim Franck said. “The new restrooms will be more accommodating and easier to access for all guests who come to enjoy the park.”
Portable restrooms will be in place for park guests while work is being completed.
The restrooms on the east side of the park, near the tennis courts, were renovated in 2015. A new playground was installed on the west side of the park in 2016.
Crews also plan to make aesthetic improvements to the Keehner Park Amphiteatre, home to the West Chester Concert Series presented by Constellation. The series kicks of June 3 and features free, live music almost every Saturday evening through Labor Day.
Keehner Park features rentable shelters, two playground areas, creek-side wooded trails, recreational sports courts/fields, and more. The 123-acre property is annually home to numerous free community events including children’s nature programs, music and arts events, and holiday celebrations.
