West Chester Township, ranked one of the top 100 communities in which to live by Fortune Magazine, lives up to its motto:
West Chester is situated in the southeast corner of Butler County, Ohio, occupying 35 square miles, more than 22,000 acres. West Chester has experienced significant population growth in the last 18 years, growing from a population of 12,553 in 1980 to an estimated 56,500 residents today.
West Chester has experienced significant growth due to the development of the Interstate System, primarily I-75, and the convergence of West Chester and Dayton.
When Interstate 75 was constructed in the 1950s, approximately 7 miles were located in the middle of West Chester, bisecting the community. During the initial construction, two interchanges were built within West Chester, at Tylersville Road and Cincinnati-Dayton Road. To capitalize on West Chester's strategic location, a third Interstate 75 interchange was opened in 1997. The Union Centre Boulevard/I-75 Interchange was the first new interchange opened in southwestern Ohio in over 20 years, and was funded entirely by the local public and private sectors. There was no state or federal money used in the project.
- Since construction of the Union Centre Boulevard interchange
10 years ago, more than $1 billion in corporate investment has
been made in the Union Centre area.
The development resulting from West Chester's proactive adaptation to the latest transportation system will ensure the continued growth and prosperity of the community.
The township consists of 22,080 acres, with 72.5% (or 16,008 acres) zoned residential, 23.0% (or 5,078 acres) zoned industrial, and 4.5% (or 994 acres) zoned commercial.
West Chester benefits from its diversity, its wide range of residential communities, and its exceptional school district - Lakota Local Schools. The community also features wonderful parks and cultural offerings developed in a manner that promotes a high quality of life.
West Chester is a limited home rule township. It is governed by three Trustees elected at large from the community. A Fiscal Officer is also elected. Day-to-day operations of the Township are managed by a Township Administrator hired by the Trustees.
West Chester Township has its own police, fire, and roads departments which are funded through levies and provide optimum service to the residential and business communities.
