School resource officers expanded in 2018-19
West Chester Township is again partnering with local schools to provide school resource officers (SROs) for the 2018-19 school year.
West Chester Police Department officers will provide safety services to the Lakota Local School District and Butler Technology and Career Development Schools.
"Lakota is excited to partner with both West Chester Police Department and the Butler County Sheriff's Office," said Matt Miller, Lakota superintendent. The Township has contracted with Lakota for nearly 20 years to provide school resource officers.
"We're excited to be expanding our 10 school resource officers to 18 for the coming school year. We'll have one school resource officer at every single one of our campuses" Miller said.
In July, the West Chester Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve motions between Lakota Local Schools and Butler Tech to provide school resource officers through the 2021 school year.
The agreement includes five officers who will spend time circulating Lakota campuses in West Chester and one officer who will spend time at Butler Tech. Schools subsidize officer compensation and benefits as part of the agreement.
