West Chester adds six full-time firefighters

Post Date:09/12/2018 12:26 PM

The West Chester Board of Trustees added eight new Firefighter/Paramedics/EMTs to the West Chester Fire Department furthering commitment to life safety and fire protection in the community.

As part of the 2018 budget strategy and in an effort to reduce reliance on the volatility of part-time contingent, the Board of Trustees approved staffing changes to the Fire Department. The 2018 operational budget reflected decreasing the part-time personnel complement from 73 to 47 and adding six new career personnel.

“Adding full-time personnel will hopefully help facilitate longevity and staffing stability and build leadership in the department,” said West Chester Fire Chief Rick Prinz. Reducing the part-time complement is also expected to reduce re-occurring costs associated with testing and onboarding new part-time personnel.
