West Chester Police philanthropic efforts continue to grow in second year – literally

Post Date:12/12/2018 8:30 AM

West Chester Police efforts to support childhood victims of abuse grew substantially in 2018, both literally and figuratively speaking.

Ms. Heidi Malott with the Mayerson Center for Safe and Healthy Children at Cincinnati Children's accepted a check in the amount of $5,000 Tuesday afternoon on behalf of the West Chester Police Department following its most recent No Shave November charity drive.

For a second consecutive year, WCPD personnel were permitted to forgo the department’s facial hair policy in exchange for a charitable donation. The Mayerson Center, which works to prevent and combat child abuse and neglect by serving as advocates for kids and families, was the beneficiary of this year’s efforts. Police beards, mustaches and goatees raised more than $2,500 last year for the PARACHUTE: Butler County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) program.

Don’t be surprised if you continue to see officers with whiskers this month – participants who donated a little extra were permitted to grow their facial hair through the end of the year.

Chief Joel Herzog sends a special “thank you” to the many residents who rallied to support the West Chester Police Department by sending in donations.
