Lieutenant receives Fire Chief’s Award for meritorious service

Post Date:12/12/2018 4:11 PM

Lt. David Eberhard of the West Chester Fire Department was presented with the Fire Chief's Award at the regular meeting of the West Chester Board of Trustees on Tuesday, Dec. 11.

Earlier this month, while off duty due to an injury, Lt. Eberhard received a smartphone app notification of a call for service in an area of town nearby his location. He immediately took action, going to the scene of the emergency and expediting care for an infant in severe respiratory distress by delivering the child to the responding paramedic unit.

“Lt. Eberhard’s actions may seem insignificant but in reality his actions saved precious time, saving this infant’s life,” said Fire Chief Rick Prinz.

The Fire Chief’s Award is a special award given at the Chief’s discretion only in certain circumstances where outstanding, meritorious service has been provided. It was last bestowed more than a decade ago in 2007, Chief Prinz said.
