Pair of career and part-time firefighters join the ranks
West Chester Fire Department added four first responders to its ranks, including a pair of career and part-time firefighter/paramedics.
On Tuesday, Feb. 26, the West Chester Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Jason Jeffers and Jeremy Waldroff to fill vacant full-time positions. The Township has placed greater emphasis on full-time personnel, decreasing its part-time complement from 73 to 47 last year to adjust for changes in the job market and reduce the re-occurring costs of part-time training.
Jason Jeffers comes to West Chester from the Clearcreek Township Fire District where he served as a career firefighter/paramedic. He is an Ohio certified Firefighter Level II, Paramedic, Life Safety Inspector, and a certified Hazardous Materials Technician. Mr. Jeffers was a former part-time firefighter/paramedic with the West Chester Fire Department and his starting pay will be $64,194.59 annually, effective March 13.
Jeremy Waldroff brings experience serving as a part-time firefighter/paramedic for Ross Township and the City of Fairfield. He is an Ohio certified Firefighter Level II, Paramedic, and is certified as a Hazardous Materials Technician, Ice Rescue Technician, Confined Space Rescue Technician, and Rope Rescue Technician. Mr. Waldroff begins his career with the West Chester Fire Department effective March 11 at the annual starting salary of $57,675.85.
Also approved were two new part-time firefighter/paramedics. Benjamin Toney and Noah Zimmer start March 7 at the hourly rate of $17.07.
All hires are contingent upon successful completion of applicable testing and procedures.
