Top 9 not-to-miss videos of 2019
West Chester TV invites residents and stakeholders to watch all your favorite videos from the past year on demand.
Programming is broadcast locally via Spectrum and posted on the community’s Vimeo and YouTube channels. Township meetings, Lakota sports and more can also be ordered on DVD. Subscribe to the Newsroom, a community e-newsletter, to be alerted when new programs are uploaded.
The following nine videos were among the most watched on the web in 2019:
In May, the Butler County Engineer's Office and Jurgensen Companies began construction to convert the Union Centre Boulevard/ I-75 interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange. The UCB DDI is designed for better safety, added pedestrian access and increased capacity. The interchange currently facilitates travel for more than 50,000 cars per day. WCTV provided five monthly video updates featuring project managers and will continue to do so in 2020.
For the first time in the history of the Hopewell Junior School Dodgeball Championships, a West Chester Police team defeated an opposing team of Lakota students in early 2019. But if you take a look back and watch the video highlights closely, you might be able to spot what appears to be unfair advantage enjoyed by the WCPD school resource officers. Review the replay on Facebook and leave a comment.
As national Fire Prevention Month came to a close at the end of October 2019, the West Chester Fire Department timed the release of a fun Ghostbusters themed public service announcement to coincide with Halloween. In the lighthearted parody video of the 1984 blockbuster film, Fire Chief Rick Prinz, Assistant Chief Dave Pickering and Lt. Randy Hanifen collectively ask residents and stakeholders, “Who you gonna call?” with fire-related and health safety questions.
Employee spotlight videos – 911 Dispatch, Fire & EMS, Police, and Public Works
Nationally, public works employees and first responders each have their own special weeks of the year when the public is encouraged to recognize these professionals for the important jobs they do. There is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (NPSTW) for 911 emergency dispatchers in mid-April; National Police Week which falls on the same calendar week of May 15, a date considered National Peace Officers Memorial Day; and the third week of May is simultaneously National Public Works Week and National EMS Week. Thank you to the West Chester Township staff who serve our community through their service in these vital careers.
One might say 2019 was a “brand” new year for West Chester Township. Over the summer, a new West Chester logo was proudly unveiled for the community at the August 13 Board of Trustees meeting. The new logo replaced the West Chester oval wordmark, an important part of the Township's legacy that had been in use since 1998. The logo was developed based on input from a broad cross-section of community members who engaged in workshops and focus groups. Stakeholders participating in focus groups labelled West Chester as: welcoming, enthusiastic, collaborative and proactive.
Olde West Chester is open for business! While merchants patiently endured another construction season, West Chester TV took the opportunity to spotlight Olde West Chester businesses in its “Charming Olde West Chester” series. Work to widen and resurface the road, build a new bridge, add crosswalks, and install sidewalks along Cincinnati Dayton Road ended in late fall. A pocket park is expected to be built at the Lesourdsville West Chester Road / Station Road intersection in 2020. Visit this quaint, historic corridor for yourself and post using the hashtag #CharmingOldeWC.
Doorbell cameras could spell the end for porch pirates. Imagine, you are alerted by your camera system of movement on your porch. You see someone is taking your packages! Immediately, you share the video with the police department. In early summer 2019, the West Chester Police Department created the Security Camera Alliance to give residents and stakeholders a chance to do just that. The Security Camera Alliance is an extension of West Chester’s successful Neighborhood Watch program. Registration is free and voluntary, and takes just a few minutes online.
Just before the 2019 Prom season, West Chester Fire & EMS pulled up to Lakota West High School to take Lakota Superintendent Matt Miller for a special ride-along to UC Health West Chester Hospital. Here, the Superintendent and West Chester paramedics sat down for a serious conversation about distracted driving. The video was created as a spin-off of Mr. Miller’s popular "Supers In Sedans" series, gathering thousands of views on social media. Search the hashtag #SupersInSedans to find more episodes and connect with local school officials.
