Senior Van recruiting volunteer drivers

Post Date:02/26/2024 12:00 PM

Get behind the wheel and get rolling for a great cause!

People who volunteer to drive for the West Chester Senior Van Transportation Service have the satisfaction of directly making a difference in the lives of some of our most vulnerable, aging community members. West Chester Township offers this program free to residents 60 and older.

Senior Van drivers go door to door to help less mobile elderly neighbors arrive safely on daytrips to and from important medical appointments, grocery store visits, social engagements and more. Drivers make approximately 1,000 essential roundtrips each year for clients in need. Many passengers might otherwise find themselves stranded if not for the work and dedication of our compassionate team of volunteers.

Volunteers are asked to commit to cover about one shift per week. The service operates Monday through Thursday between 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

West Chester Township provides Senior Van volunteers with the vehicle, fuel and support they need to perform their duties. All rides are coordinated through Township staff, and all drivers are equipped with a cell phone for communication with a scheduler.

In late 2023, the Board of Trustees agreed to invest $150,000 in the Senior Van Service with grant money from the Butler County ARPA/State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund. The grant pays for volunteer training as well as the purchase of two new vehicles, including one specially outfitted van to accommodate clients who use motorized wheelchairs/scooters.

Drivers must first complete an application, which includes a background check. To get started, please call (513) 759-7208 or email Monica Dexter, outreach coordinator, at mdexter@WestChesterOH.org.

The Senior Van Transportation Service has continually operated in West Chester Township for more than two decades. Learn more at www.WestChesterOH.org/SeniorVan.
