New playground to be installed at Keehner Park
West Chester will be replacing the nearly 20-year-old playground in the picnic area of Keehner Park.
Trustees approved the purchase of the new playground during their Dec. 1 meeting.
“The playground is nearly 20 years old and has reached the end of its useful life,” Community Services Director Tim Franck said. “Sun and weather take a toll on the equipment and replacement parts are no longer available to make repairs.”
Franck said the services department has worked hard to keep both playgrounds at Keehner Park in working condition, but it is time to plan for replacement in order to provide a safe playground environment for the children that frequent the park.
“The new playground will be more accessible for children and conform to new safety regulations,” Franck said.
The playground will feature three slides, three climbing areas, a log roll and sky wheels.
After soliciting and reviewing pricing from different vendors that offer package systems, GameTime offered the best products for the price.
Trustees approved the purchase of the new equipment from GameTime. The estimated cost of the new playground is $28,100, which includes removing the existing equipment and installing the new equipment.
The new playground is expected to be installed early next year.
