• Can only operate on public streets that are under 55 mph and must be used on sidewalks, bike paths, and bike lanes

• All riders under 18 must wear a helmet

• Ages 14 to 15 must ride with a helmet and adult supervision (age 18+)

• The rider or operator has to abide by all traffic laws, including:
  • Scooters must follow the same laws as Bicycles for night
  • Headlight (white, visible from 500 ft) and red reflector facing the rear 
  • Give audible signal before overtaking and passing pedestrians
  • Yield to pedestrians and human-powered vehicle

• Operators must be at least 16 with a valid motorcycle endorsement

• Vehicle must have valid plates 

• Gas-Powered Scooters must be titled and registered. If no title exists for the scooter, it must be taken to the OSP for a motor vehicle inspection

• Must meet all safety standards (Chapter 4513, Title 45 - Ohio Revised Code) and maintain financial responsibility

• The rider or operator has to abide by all traffic laws

• Not allowed on public roadways but may cross the roadway

• May run adjacent to the roadway for a short distance to get from point to point

• Registration is not necessary

• Recommended: edge lights and slow-moving vehicle placard

• Minimum age: 14 with a moped license, 16 with a state license

• Helmets required for all riders under 18

• Must have a rearview mirror

• Need to be operated within 3 feet of the right edge of the roadway

• One rider only

• Must meet specific design and speed limitations (Any vehicle with two tandem wheels or one front and two rear wheels) which is capable of being pedaled and is also equipped with a helper motor. The helper motor may not have a piston displacement more than 50 cubic centimeters, produce more than one brake horsepower, and propel the vehicle at a maximum speed greater than 20 mph on a level surface)

• The rider or operator has to abide by all traffic laws

• Golf carts are considered a low speed motor vehicle and need local government authorization to operate on public roads

• Even if the golf cart meets all the state criteria (registration, insurance, equipment standards, etc.), golf carts are ILLEGAL to operate on West Chester Township roadways.

E-bikes, or electronic bikes, are pedal bikes with an electronic motor to assist the rider.

• Anyone can operate a Class 1 or Class 2 e-bike in a similar manner to a non-motorized bike without a license
  • Class 1 e-bikes only provide pedal assistance (no throttle) and can reach speeds of up to 20 mph
  • Class 2 e-bikes have both pedal assist and a throttle, allowing you to ride without pedaling, also capped at 20 mph.
  • Class 3 e-bikes are pedal-assist only but can go up to 28 mph, making them the fastest of the three
    • Class 3 e-bikes must be operated by a rider 16 years of age or older

• All e-bikes must be clearly marked with the classification of the e-bike

• In Ohio, e-bikes cannot be operated on bike trails traditionally reserved for non-motorized bikes, unless local law allows

• Operator of e-bike must abide by traffic laws
