The Butler County Recycling and Solid Waste District offers a Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off. You can visit their website for more information or collection dates.
Accepted items typically include: Oil-based paint/varnish/stain, automotive fluids, heating oil, pesticides, fertilizers, solvents/paint thinners, drain cleaners, batteries, fire extinguishers, propane/helium/oxygen tanks, mercury thermometers/thermostats, fluorescent bulbs, driveway sealer, kerosene, pool chemicals.
Not accepted: latex paint*, explosives, ammunition, unmarked cylinders, fireworks, gun powder.
*Latex paints are not accepted - use it up, dry it up, pass it on! They can be safely disposed of with regular trash. Paint cans should be less than half full. Leave the lid off the can and mix with sand/kitty litter or sawdust to absorb remaining paint and speed the drying process. Once paint is hardened, leave curbside, next to your trash cans so trash haulers can see that it is dried.
